Exterra Termite Interception and Baiting System provides an alternative to chemical termite treatment in some cases and is environmentally friendly. Above ground Exterra baits were installed on 15th March 2003 and termite activity was observed in bait stations on the 22nd March 2003
Termite workings were wide spread within active above ground bait stations.
Large quantities of Requiem were consumed by termites within 1 week of installation.
Below - termite workings can be seen throughout the Requiem bait.
Additional above ground stations on the same site were found to be active, considering that termite activity had taken to these baits so extensively within such a short period of time could be considered as fortunate, although it is my belief that due to the use of thermal imaging the ideal locating of above ground stations was achieved.
Any openings to above ground bait stations with active termites has been sealed with termite mud packing, this indicates to us that the entire bait now constitutes part of the termite workings.
This site illustrates the importance of good termite detection and strategic placement of termite bait stations, in my opinion Exterra should be seriously considered by any property owner weather termite activity or termite damage has been detected or not. Using a chemical barrier treatment on this site may have provided us with a protection against termite activity but would have likely caused active termites to have been isolated from the main nest, as a sub-nest exists above these workings, this sub-nest could have continued damaging existence for a period in excess of six to nine months of continued termite damage to structural timbers of dwelling. Exterra has given us the most desired result and termite colony elimination of the stations that are active is now assured.
All Exterra Bait Stations, In-Ground & Above Ground, are numbered and have individual barcodes for monitoring with Exteris. Exteris is a computer program that ensures that all bait stations are inspected periodically, data provided on the barcodes of each station needs to be physically recorded on each and every inspection of the site. If a station has been missed it will be identified immediately and an immediate reinspection of the site will need to be undertaken. A full history of each bait station is recorded from the day of installation, this history will include, Installation, dates of each inspection, if termite activity was found, if higher than normal moisture readings were recorded, if stations have been damaged (by lawn mowers, gardening etc' - relocation accordingly may be considered), if stations have been filled with Requiem bait, if termite colony elimination has been achieved.
