Theory - Mould in Shoes Could Cause Foot Infection - Stephen Koelewyn 3rd Jan 2012

I, Stephen Koelewyn, have a theory that mould in, or on leather shoes, has a possible link to fungal foot infections -

I challenge a Dermatologist or other medical scientist to take up this subject as a research project - I will assist to the best of my ability.

I have come to the conclusion that there is a possibility that mould growth that occurs on leather shoes that have been stored in damp or poorly ventilated areas could be transferred to the human foot causing dermal fungal infections of the foot.

As a building consultant that has developed a specialty in damp over many years, in Sydney Australia, I have a unique skill set to make observations that most scientists never get to experience. Over many years my knowledge increases, I become more experienced and I evolve into understanding why certain natural occurrences occur in the way they do.

We take for granted the fact that mould occurs where conditions are appropriate, in buildings most commonly related to elevated moisture content (damp).

We know for a fact that, some mould species can be beneficial, such as Penicillium fungi, however other fungi/mould can be toxic to humans.

At this point of time I would suggest that people be wary of wearing those leather shoes that have evidence of mould growth.

I will over the coming months do more research and experimentation, revisit literature that documents the suffering of WWI soldiers through feet infections.

I will also approach various scientific bodies in an effort to initiate research for the benefit of the wider community

This page will be added to in the foreseeable future.
